Palsgaard’s roots trace back to the day when, in 1908, the entrepreneur Einar Viggo Schou (1866 -1925) returned to Denmark from the United Kingdom in search of a “beautiful place to live”. He found his dream in the majestic 12th-century Palsgaard estate with its beautiful, fairy-tale manor house and breath-taking scenery of forests and coastlines. Einar purchased Palsgaard Estate with revenues earned as a part owner of Southall, the world’s largest margarine factory at the time, and from inventing the revolutionary cooling-drum process for the manufacture of margarine emulsions in the UK.

Today, the estate is still home to the Palsgaard company global headquarters and the largest production facility with further manufacturing plants in the Netherlands, Mexico, Brazil and, most recently, a new factory in Malaysia.

Palsgaard is the world’s only full-service emulsifier and stabilizer company, creating sustainably produced ingredients with specialized performance characteristics. They have the hidden ingredients that transform everyday foodstuffs into extraordinary products on supermarket shelves in over 100 countries.

Emulsifiers and stabilizers allow processed food to behave in previously impossible ways. Ingredients that would normally be incompatible can be combined harmoniously,  enabling exciting new capabilities and functionality. Palsgaard is a specialist in the manufacture of emulsifiers and stabilizers for bakery, confectionery, dairy, ice cream, margarine, mayonnaise and dressings.

In addition to providing the actual emulsifier / stabilizer solution, the company supports its customers by providing expert application services, helping customers create new products, update existing formulations, fine-tune production processes and prepare for full-scale production in its application centers located worldwide.

Activated cake emulsifiers can have prolonged shelf-life and improved batter stability. Palsgaard’s bakery division works with both industrial bakeries and manufacturers of cake mixes, used in both bakers’ mixes and retail mixes. The company strives for properties such as batter stability, improved cake volume and texture, as well as prolonged shelf-life and simplified labelling.

Together with customers, Palsgaard develops new, healthier and softer cakes, and helps customers optimize existing recipes in its worldwide application centers. The centers constantly create new, safe and market-relevant innovations to support its customers better.

Beyond emulsifiers for food, Palsgaard has developed bio-based emulsifiers especially well-suited for both bio-based and biodegradable plastics for food packaging.

Bio-based means originating from bio-based materials high in carbon, such as sugar canes. This type can be transformed into an exact copy of their fossil-based counterparts, such as PE (polyethylene), which are not biodegradable. Thereby, emulsifiers can be an effective and safe additive in bio-based plastics just like in their fossil-based counterparts.

Emulsifiers are an excellent choice for both bio-based and biodegradable plastics, which is a growing segment in the plastics industry as consumers are demanding greener alternatives, free of fossil fuels. Recently, scientists are even working on polymers based on CO2 from the air, to help clean the atmosphere of excess CO2, which is the perfect raw material for the carbon- based polymers.

Paalsgaard products are among ComQuest’s flag-carrier products in the Philippines.
